First Date Night in Savannah: Artillery

Last Saturday Alex and I were FINALLY able to have our first date night in Savannah! Things have been crazy lately with the move and taking care of our new puppy. It was so relaxing to spend a night with just the two of us. We decided to check out a swanky bar we’ve been eyeing downtown called Artillery. It’s a restored building in the historic district where the armory used to house the cavalry’s artillery- pretty cool!

We both loved the atmosphere! The lighting was dim, there were candles at every table, and the music was soft enough that we didn’t have to yell at each other in order to talk. The mix of mid-century modern and contemporary elements gave the place an eclectic feel. The soft velvet seats, cove lighting, and pops of brass kept it cozy and intimate. Occasionally, we would even get a whiff of some smoked pipe tobacco that they use in a few of their cocktails which I thought only added to the vintage vibe!

Of course with us both being interior designers, we couldn’t help but notice how thoughtfully designed this place was. Alex even pointed out the bookend matched stone behind the bar. (I had to roll my eyes a bit at that one because only a designer would say that.)

La Nina Fresa
Vieux Carre

My drink of choice was called La Nina Fresa: pineapple rum, tepache, and lime (above left). It was super fruity and sweet- just the way I like it! Alex went for the Vieux Carre: Chateau de Maniban vs armagnac, Rittenhouse rye, Carpano antica, benedictine, Peychauds & Angostura bitters (above right). I couldn’t tell you what half of those ingredients are but Alex enjoyed it so that’s all that matters right? I also tried the Fizzy Lifting Drink (below) because we only do this once in a while so why not? We both decided it sounds like something from Harry Potter and it did taste pretty magical! Super fizzy, fruity, and hot pink- I couldn’t have asked for  anything more in a drink!

Our first date night in Savannah was definitely a success! I think we both realized how important it is to spend intentional time with each other even though we are married, and it’s especially important when things are getting crazy and stressful. We can’t wait to come up with more fun date ideas and I’m sure we will be back to Artillery if we ever need a quiet place to unwind from the week!
